Annual ReportState of the Barber Industry 2026
2026 is the most consequential year the barber industry has had since the cordless boom of 2018. Brushless went mainstream, modular batteries became platform-level, JRL took the cordless crown, and pricing pressure forced every legacy brand to either modernize or lose share. This is the annual report.
The five 2026 industry shifts
1. Brushless is now baseline
What was a premium upgrade in 2024 is now the baseline expectation in the top tier. JRL, StyleCraft and even Wahl shipped brushless flagships this year.
2. Modular batteries went platform-level
StyleCraft's Instinct X and BaBylissPRO's FXONE proved that a single battery shared across clipper, trimmer and shaver isn't a gimmick — it's the workflow upgrade that defines a 2026 station.
3. JRL took the year
The Onyx won Tool of the Year, the Diamante won premium, and JRL's brand authority in the cordless tier is now the strongest in the industry.
4. Pricing pressure forced legacy modernization
Wahl's Senior 2.0 Cordless and Vapor exist because the JRL Diamante existed. Andis is repositioning the GTX-EXO. Every legacy brand has a brushless answer in development.
5. Hypoallergenic blade systems went mainstream
JRL's hypoallergenic foils, StyleCraft's metal-chassis dome shavers, BaBylissPRO's DLC-treated FXONE blades — sensitive-skin tooling is no longer a niche.

- 3. Wahl — fastest modernization, Senior 2.0 + Vapor
