How To Cut A Burst Fade — The 2026 Pro Guide
The burst fade is the most technical of the modern fades — a curved fade that wraps around the ear instead of going straight across. Section discipline is everything.
Step 1 — Map the curve
The section curves around the ear, dipping behind it. Outline the curve with a clipper line before bulk removal.
Step 2 — Bulk the burst zone
Inside the curve, take it short. Outside the curve, leave length. This contrast IS the burst.
Step 3 — Blend the curve
Lever-blend along the curve, not across it. The wrist follows the ear.
Step 4 — Connect to the back
The burst should taper into a clean nape — never a hard line. Trimmer-finish the perimeter.
